PSYCHOTHERAPY
·
Psychotherapy
is a technique where the person is encouraged to explore the feelings,
experiences and thoughts that may be behind difficulties in their life.
·
Very
often, difficult feelings or experiences from childhood or later are pushed
away, ignored, or discounted as they caused too much hurt, anxiety or other
feelings that were, at that time, unacceptable or could not be dealt with.
·
These
experiences and associated feelings still exist in memory; they do not simply
go away. They can continue to affect the way we view the world, the way we feel
about ourselves and the way we behave.
·
My
role is to provide a safe, confidential and accepting environment where I can
help the client to understand and re-evaluate these old beliefs about
themselves and their world. In this way change can and does happen at the
deepest levels.
·
My
approach to Psychotherapy is to see people once, or maybe twice a week.
·
This more in-depth approach
is not right for everyone, or all problems - for many people, more conventional
Counselling is appropriate.
